I know a lot of you are always looking forward to my bi-weekly upload, and are hoping for a nice, long NeverNotFlying episode. And because the video I posted today was a bit short, I though I’d make up for that by giving an update about myself & the site – to offer some perspective on why recent videos are a bit different from the ones that are, say, 6 months old.
When I started NeverNotFlying mid 2015, I was, as they say, ‘between jobs’ or ‘exploring opportunities’. At that time I was also writing airline reviews for a Dutch website for frequent travellers and at some point while I was doing that, I thought to myself ‘why don’t I just also shoot videos during my travels so I can create more content’, and so I did.
Shortly after, due to a variety of reasons, I stopped working with that website and started focussing solely on my YouTube channel. Because I didn’t have a full-time job, I could allocate a LOT of my time to my videos, and I think it shows, some of the earlier ones, for instance the ones about Air France First Class, the Etihad First Class Apartment and the new KLM Dreamliner Business Class are pretty good!
Late 2015 I was facing a dilemma though; I was enjoying making my videos a lot, but it was also taking a lot of time, which was preventing me from doing other work, while also, unfortunately, YouTube monetization wasn’t (and still isn’t) enough to pay the bills. So, I started looking for a ‘regular job’ again, which I found. I’ve been working in my current job for almost 6 months now, and I like it there – they’re pretty flexible, which I’m very thankful for. But the job has cut severy into the time I have to travel and create videos…
I still make it a priority in life to travel, and still enjoy making videos a lot – even though it has been more difficult to fit it all in. This might result in more regional travel in stead of long-haul; I’ll have to see what I can make work. For now I’m still holding on to my bi-weekly upload shedule, but I really hope you’ll forgive me if a video is a bit late or shorter then you’d like.
As to what’s coming in the future: I’ve still got footage from several flights I need to edit. Amongst others: Qatar Airways Business (both short- & mid-haul), Garuda Indonesia Business Class, Cathay Pacific, and more. The coming months I’ve got some intra-Europe flights booked with KLM and am planning a bigger trip close to the end of the year (no details about that yet though – sorry!).
For now: thank you all so much for your support – I’m thankful for all the positive feedback and compliments my videos get, and please, share your thoughts on this with me in the comments below!
